Who We Are

Mindat.org is run by the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Hudson Institute of Mineralogy as its principal outreach program. Mindat.org was founded by Jolyon Ralph, who continues to work full-time to manage and improve mindat.org.

The Management Team

The management team consists of around 50 experts who help ensure the accuracy of submitted content and oversee the editorial policies of the site. Many of our managers have chosen to list a public profile and they can be seen here.

Expert Contributors

Below this, we have around 450 contributors around the world who have gained trusted access to the site due to their regular accurate contributions and expert knowledge. Unlike regular contributors their contributions are generally approved automatically (although they are still reviewed and can be edited/removed if they are not substantiated) and they have more flexibility in editing existing content.

We currently have experts in 40 countries around the world - Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Finland, Gabon, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States.

Regular Contributors

We have currently just over 4000 regular contributors (from 105 different countries) who have the ability to submit content to mindat.org - at this level all content must be reviewed and approved before it is seen on the live site.

Registered users

We have over 33,000 other registered users (from 216 different countries and territories) who have registered but do not have any access rights to contribute information beyond using our forum.
