An important quarry in the Franklin Marble and is also an important employer in the area. The quarry is now an essential source of crushed stone for road work and the general constructiuon industry. It is located off Cork Hill Road, in the southern portion of Franklin borough, near the Ogdensburg line and between the two zinc orebodies. In the final years of the Sterling Mine's operation, this quarry provided the fine marble aggregate used to backfill mined out areas in that mine. It now keeps its commonly used name as the Franklin Quarry. This locality is within the Franklin Mining District.

Description: Dunn (1995) gives the following account: β€œFine, yellow, euhedral norbergite crystals, up to 25 mm in clusters to 3 x 2 x 2 cm, were found in the Franklin Quarry in 1982 and have the tabular habit figured by Palache. In this occurrence, norbergite is associated with calcite, hercynite, and phlogopite."

Description: Identified before the nomenclature changes by IMA mica-group subcommittee of the IMA. All known analyses show Fluorine dominant over hydroxyl. The giant phlogopites that are so famous from the Franklin Marble have been re-defined as fluorophlogopite. While actual phlogopite may occur in the marble in very small quantities, its existence remains unproven by chemical analysis.
