Corundum locality (crystals also found loose in regional soils).

Abandoned corundum mine 3/4 mi. north of Shimersville (pegmatite). Large rough barrel-shaped crystal, sometimes asteriated.

Abandoned iron mine 1 1/4 mi. north of Shimersville (precambrian gneisses). Additionally, abandoned magnetite mine just south of town.
