Complex mineralization in Devonian-Dinantian spilite-keratophyre near a Visean hypovolcanic granite intrusion.
Located near "Le Gros Âne" outcrops (Cabane des Couchettes); French Lambert coordinates : X=921.95, Y=310.80, Z=2570.
"Still on the D91 [from La Grave, currently the D1091] after passing the Jardin Alpin at the Col du Lautaret. To the south, a road leads to the 'bergerie des Couchettes'. Continue across the moraines of the Pic de Combeynot until the place called Gros-Âne where there are old workings with azurite, anatase, native silver, bornite, covellite, cobaltite, cassiterite, garnet, limonite, malachite, molybdenite, pyrrhotite, rutile, sphalerite, and wittichenite (natural bismuth and copper sulphide)."
