Alteration: Biotization, Silicification (Inner And Outer Zones), Argillization; Some Contact Metamorphism Of Surrounding Permian Dolomites And Shales

Deposit: Porphyry-type Mo deposit; breccia pipe complex. Ore is oxidized from 200 to 600 ft depth with sulfide extending from 300 to 1000 ft depth and a second sulfide orebody at 1500 ft depth. A deep sulfide target extends from 3000 to 4500 ft depth. The main (cave peak) breccia pipe is a 2500 ft diameter rhyolite breccia mass with a composite intrusive core of older quartz monzonite porphyry and quartz latite porphyry cut by a younger plug of quartz monzonite porphyry. This record incorporated data from duplicate record d000622 by robert u. King (74 08) which has been deleted.

Deposit type: Climax Mo

Development: Intermittent exploration from pre-1914 to present; core drilling intermittent since mid-1960's. Union carbide in 1970 drilled 26 holes with 23,000 ft cumulative length. Over 42,000 ft of diamond drilling by 1978, mostly by union carbide and draco mines.

Geology: Diopside-tremolite-calcite marbles, spurrite-merwinite-periclase hornfels, and grossularite-idocrase-wollastonite hornfels in the contact zones.
