Extensive open pit and strip mining of tin for at least 500 years, until 1992.
Phuket Mining Museum is established in one of the old open pits, located in Kathu on the road between Loch Palm Golf Club and British International School. It is one of the islandβs most interesting museums. It features displays ranging from tin mine models to a recreated scene in an opium den.
