The Golden Pike was found at the western edge of the Golden Mile as one of the Hannans Proprietary Development properties. In 1896 it was bordered to the south by the Great Boulder Proprietary and West Boulder leases, the east by the Hainault, and Hannans Central to the north.

Present day the mine borders the deviation road, opposite the Super Pit.

The mine was developed from 1896 by the Hannans Golden Pike Gold Mining Company. Little exciting news emanated from the mine about important discoveries.

In 1899, the mine was amalgamated with the Lake View East company. At least one shareholder wrote from London complaining that the Golden Pike was a far richer mine than Lake View East, and the amalgamation should not go ahead. It is unclear how he could come to this conclusion from the other side of the planet, and the lack of gold found so far at the Golden Pike.

Lake View East continued development work at the Golden Pike until 1901, when the shaft had reached 1000 feet depth, and they then abandoned work on the lease.
