This is a particular occurrence of upper jurassic basaltic rocks that include also other ophiolites (serpentinites and rare gabbros) and occasionally, masses of rhodingites. The occurrence of a mass of rhodingite into a greater mass of serpentinite is localized near Villa Collemandina municipality (Garfagnana); the occurrence of the rocks of this area is the same of Petrognano and other places of Garfagnana and it is also similar to Liguria and Monti Livornesi Rhodingites. The area is about 1 Km west of the little Villa Collemandina Village near a small artificial basin, in a locality called "Pianacci" or "Sasso Cinturino". The minerals were found for the first time in 1984 in a little temporary quarry now completely abandoned. The studies over these minerals were the subject of the discussions for a geology degree.
