Copper ore minerals formed in the cement and matrix of Oligocene conglomerates and sandstones. The first documented works were carried out in 1845, in the mines Santa Polonia and San Rainiero. After a long time of abandonment, since 1957 they worked on behalf of the company “Explotaciones Mineras Aragonesas S.A.”, which also built a concentration plant next to the town. The work, with some interruptions, remained active until the mid-1960s.
