More information is needed on this deposit. Collier Bay is part of the Kimberley mainland at the eastern end of the Buccaneer Archipelago. It is a remote area, that can only be accessed by sea. Some reports described copper between Derby and Collier Bay, but this could refer to the subsequently named Oobagooma deposits which sit half-way between the two locations.
Further, it is stated in one report found, numerous small but rich copper veins are found throughout the region.
A station owner in the area by the name of Poulton brought to Melbourne several rich silver and copper specimens. He arranged a syndicate of Melbourne and Adelaide men to finance a prospecting party to the area in 1906. The location is only described as between Collier Bay and Kings Sound.
In 1929 a group of local businessmen headed by B.E. Stacey financed another prospecting party for tin and other base metals 'around Collier Bay'. The Chief Geologist for the expedition was E.C. Francis. They uncovered they stated high-grade tin ore and a copper lode, as well as traces of gold and tantalite. The exact location is not noted.
In 1915, a general description of base metals in the West Kimberley, notes apart from Oobagooma, numerous places in the region show copper, the veins small but rich. It states a recently opened copper lode at Yampi Sound west of Collier Bay by Mr. Bonner and party and sites further east up the coast from Collier Bay, including the Macdonald Range, Augustus Island, and the area near Mt Trafalgar at St Georges Basin.
