The Paritu porphyry copper deposit in the northern Coromandel Peninsula is hosted by a small diorite to granodiorite pluton which intrudes the basement Manaia Hill Group and Early to mid Miocene andesites. Uplift of the Paritu Volcanics has exposed mineralisation at Paritu as dominantly disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite with associated molybdenite (Christie and Brathwaite, 1986).
Black (1972) and Skinner (1975) provide more general geology articles on the area, including the Paritu Plutonics which forms a 16 square kilometre zoned aureole from Hope Creek in the south to Fantail Bay in the north. Interesting specimens are possible along the coast, and streams, but generally exposure is poor.
The Moehau Quarry is also in the Paritu area, with a tonalite found here used in building construction and road base, active from the early 20th century to the 1960s.
The Paritu area is 20-30 kilometres north-west of Colville, the nearest town, and is accessed along a scenic coastline on the gravel Port Jackson Road. Mindat co-ordinates indicate the general area.
